

Charcia Nichols is a nationally respected educational leader, professor, and systems strategist with more than 30 years of experience advancing instructional excellence, leadership development, and equitable outcomes for students and schools. Her career spans classroom teaching, school and district leadership, higher education, and nonprofit governance, with a consistent focus on building sustainable, high-impact systems that support both educators and scholars.

Charcia currently serves as a Professor of School Leadership at Albany State University, where she works within the Wallace Foundation Principal Preparation Program, preparing aspiring and sitting principals to lead complex organizations. Her work emphasizes instructional coherence, leadership capacity-building, and the creation of cultures grounded in clarity, accountability, and care. She is known for bridging research and practice to ensure leaders are prepared for the real-world demands of school leadership.

A winner of the Ann Tisch Inspire Award, Charcia is recognized for transformative leadership and sustained impact in education. This honor reflects her deep commitment to empowering leaders, strengthening systems, and expanding access and opportunity for historically underserved communities.

Charcia holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from University of Georgia, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Jacksonville State University, and both an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction from Argosy University. She also holds a Certificate in School Leadership and Management from Harvard Business School, strengthening her expertise in organizational leadership, strategy, and operations.

Her leadership development includes graduation from Leadership DeKalb, Leadership Walton, and the LeveragED LaunchPad, a program designed to support education leaders in building innovative and sustainable schools. She is Reading Endorsed and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Endorsed, with deep expertise in literacy development, data-informed instruction, and tiered academic and behavioral systems.

Charcia serves as a mentor to Build Excellence in Schools (BES) Fellows and as a coach to founding charter school leaders, providing strategic guidance during critical launch and growth phases, including governance, operations, instructional alignment, and leadership sustainability.

She also serves as a Board Member of the 100 Girls of Code Board of Directors, supporting the organization’s mission to expand access to technology and STEM opportunities for girls.
